There is a suburb in Port Elizabeth that never sleeps. On the beachfront, it is a place where students stay up late, where tourists start their exploration of The Friendly City, and where the best cocktails in town can be found!
This suburb is Humewood.
To get to Humewood, just follow the road to the beach! You’ll know when you’re there: it’s when you are just off the freeway, past South End, and you have an amazing view of the sea.
In Humewood, the old and new in Port Elizabeth form a vibrant fusion. The lucky Port Elizabethans who live in the established blocks of flats, large old homes, and newly painted townhouse complexes, make Humewood one of Port Elizabeth’s busier suburbs, day and night. This really is a suburb where students and nine-to-fivers find a way to mix work and play.
When you visit this bustling suburb, you might notice that Humewood is probably Port Elizabeth’s most sleepless neighbourhood! It has a bustling beach, public swimming pools such as the well-known McArthurs Bath Pool Complex, and a walkway along the beach that stretches as far as the eye can see. Also in Humewood, trendy restro-bars such as Coco de Mer, the well-established Café Brazilia and Mauro’s, as well as the upmarket Farriagers, amongst others, will make it difficult to choose where to where to dine!
A word of warning though: here the nights often become surprisingly fun and surprisingly late, as some of Port Elizabeth’s most popular nightspots can be found in Humewood. As soon as you enter any of the popular nightspots such as Memphizz, Finnezz, or Gondwana cocktail bars, or the funky upmarket lounges in the numerous hotels, you can be sure that you’ll find a reason to stay for one last nightcap.
Whatever the reason for your visit, Humewood is sure to make you want to stay just a little bit longer.
