Finding the right school for your son or daughter may give you sleepless nights, and, to add to the pressure, many parents can still remember their own positive or negative experiences at school.
In the yellow pages, you will find over 40 Port Elizabeth schools listed. Many of these are well-known, such as Alexander Road High School, Framesby High School, Grey High School and St. Dominic’s Priory. There are also schools that focus on technical education, such as Newton Technical High School. The contact details of private schools, such as Woodridge and Collegiate High School, are also available here.
The question is: how do you choose the ‘right’ school for your child? There are many considerations, such as the focus of the school on specific sports, academic preferences, the traditions of the school, and even the proximity to your home. Often, parents find that doing a little research gets good results when it comes to finding the right school for their children.
Many parents who are part of the community of Newton Park have done just this, and chosen Alexander Road High school as the secondary school of choice for their children. A few years ago, Alexander Road High school was also chosen by Africa Almanac as one of the “Hundred Best Schools in Africa”.
One other school from Port Elizabeth was also on the “Hundred Best Schools in Africa”-list: Grey High School. Grey High School is a Port Elizabeth school known for its emphasis on tradition, and a keen focus on both sport and academia.
But these aren’t the only two Port Elizabeth schools with good reputations and great track-records. In fact, some would say that Port Elizabeth parents are spoilt for choice when it comes to schools that will ensure that their children get a balanced education, and the right spring board for their futures.
